Top 10 Funniest People in Talk Radio of All Time

These are the people who make me (or made me – some ain’t so funny these days – but don’t worry, I’m not talking about you Brian) laugh out loud, sometimes so hard I’m crying and I can’t breathe.

10.  Tod Perry

9.  Gary Hoffmann

8.  Howard Stern

7.  Teresa Strasser

6.  Rob Marinko

5.  Frosty Stilwell

4.  Phil Hendrie

3.  April Winchell

2.  Brian Whitman

1.  Tim Conway, Jr.

So…like…I’m reading this book

Hey – guess what! Did you know that people write books that are NOT about Tudor England?!?

Just kidding. I totally read other things. Seriously. Like important blogs. And Facebook status updates. (That counts as reading, right?) And…I love epistolary books.

So anyway, while I’m saving the remaining 12% of my book for later (thanks, Kindle, for the specific stats)…

From Jennifer to Brian Whitman

12th April, 2010

Dear Brian,

very special podcast indeed!

Love always,

Jennifer

From Jennifer to Tod Perry

13th April, 2010

Dear Tod,

So sad to learn of your departure from Low Budget. You always made me laugh out loud – not in an LOL way – but actually laugh. Out loud. I’ll never hear a conspiracy theory or meet a whale without thinking of you.

Best of luck,

Jennifer

From Jennifer to Ira Glass

Dear Mr. Glass,

You are simply amazing.

Affectionately,

Jennifer

Hello sweet spirit

So over the long weekend I was able to listen to a lot of podcasts. A lot. I’m all caught up on TBTL, Marc Germain, Pretty Good Podcast, and Low Budget. I even listened to a couple K-Pods and a couple Adam Carollas.

I re-listened to the latest Ricky Gervais audiobook – Guide to Society. (By the way, another audiobook comes out tomorrow – Guide to Law and Order.) I heart these audiobooks.

Oh, and on Black Friday I camped out in front of the $78 1TB external hard drives. So now I’m all set to permanently archive whatever old Conway and Whitmans I managed to download when they were available.

Perhaps that makes me a loser, but I can’t take the chance of never hearing those studs together again.

Manga is a big part of nerdlore

Real quick…

My favorite nerdcast, Low Budget Radio, paid homage to Oprah and did a “Favorite Things” episode, which included things like domestic beer and pictures of whales. I couldn’t resist making a list of my own.

(They started at 7 so I guess I will too.)

7. British TV shows

6. Steve Martin novels, movies and banjo CDs (don’t think I didn’t just buy that CD)

5. Alan Rickman

4. Queen Elizabeth I

3. Severus Snape

2. Trader Joe’s

And my number 1 favorite thing…

Post-its!!!

(I’m afraid I may have out-nerded Marc and Tod.)

Caballeros del amor

Or, I’m the brand new Andy Rooney.

Do you ever wonder where podcasts are recorded?

Adam Carolla records in his super garage or warehouse. The Pretty Good Podcast – Randy’s studio apartment in Valley Village. Low Budget Radio – a garage in Korea Town.

Frosty, Heidi and Frank rent studio time at a real recording studio. The former bobsled recorded in Brian Whitman’s backyard in Toluca Lake. (BTW, I could never live in Toluca Lake. It sounds OK, but Toluca is radically ugly when typed.)

So I listened to April Winchell’s newest podcast today. (It’s great – definitely check it out.) When Talk Radio One was in its infancy, April would sit on the couch with a towel over her head and Skype with Marc.

But just as the Jeffersons moved on up to that de-luxe apartment in the sky, April has upgraded her podcasting set-up. Like a modern-day Mary Tyler Moore (What’s with all the ’70s TV references?), she’s thrown that oppressive towel in the air and now sits unencumbered in an actual chair.

In the closet.

Who can turn the world on with her smile…

Zapruder humor is timeless

So what’s going on in podcast land?

Brian Whitman (Website still hacked. Randy, please help him out. For old times’ sake. Pleeeease. Is Don on the phone?)

This guy flamed out on a pretty cool bodcast. Now he’s decided he needs about 50 jobs.

Glenn Beck Voices, producing, writing.

www.rick.com Hosting a morning music show.

Fake Leykis Podcast (only one so far)  Brian, PLEASE turn off comments on your website. You’re only asking for trouble.

Pay him $20 to give your outgoing voicemail message.

April Winchell

New podcast today! I don’t know if this will be a regular thing, but enjoy it while it lasts.

Pretty Good Podcast

This really is a pretty good podcast. Check out the Jennifer Conway episode. It’s great – I’ve listened to it twice.

Low Budget Radio

These guys are real nerdy. Listen to the “Dear Gina Grad” episode for some funny George Noory humor. And when isn’t George Noory funny?

KLSX riff-raff podcasts

Randy Wang has become the king of the fringe podcast. He’s producing (OK, he’s recording and posting) a bunch of new podcasts.

Malibu Dan and Chrysta

The Single Life Podcast

AdaMacaDocious Podcast (I’m copying Randy’s capitalization here, don’t blame me.)

Marc Germain

Marc had Teresa Strasser (I love that you can type her entire name with your left hand. If you don’t use capital letters. Or if you have radical control of your little finger.) on as a guest last week.

Tonight’s guest is Bethenny Frankel from Real Housewives of New York City. This guy has a major Real Housewives jones, man.

If Randy is the king of the riff-raff, Talk Radio One is a haven for people who were fired from KABC. Who knew there would be such a market?

Un-Skype this lad, please.

The crying Indian was not an Indian

I’m a little bored with my current podcast lineup. The crazy bobsled is over, FHF are putting out low-end podcasts they recorded weeks ago, Mr. K’s been taking a ton of days off, Low Budget Radio is geeking it up with Star Trek and Star Wars talk.

So what about talk radio…

KABC – Al Rantel’s still out, too many commercials on Doug McIntyre.

KFI – Depression city. Non-stop tax talk on John and Ken. (Thank goodness the election is today. Let’s drink the peppermint schnapps and be done.) Jodi Becker’s gone. (Took that Greyhound bus heading east.)

So for about a week I’ve been listening to old Conway and Whitman podcasts. Those were the good old days, maan. Let’s reminisce.

Remember when…

Randy was Ryan. And normal.

Tim and Brian thought Johnny Vegas was a cool dude.

Weird Al was practically a weekly topic.

Brian’s voices sang “Let me borrow that top.”

Tim got a flu shot. At Sears.

Not a hit!!!

Hey gang, it’s the Pretty Good Podcast with Randy Wang and Elvira

The former KLSX outlier crew has been busy…

On Low Budget Radio with Marc Chambers and Tod Perry (they’re two guys who don’t enjoy using all the standard consonants in their names), I’ve learned the following:

Calling a trekker a “trekkie” is like calling him the n-word.

People won’t steal things from your car if you have tinted windows.

On the Pretty Good Podcast with Gina Grad and Randy Wang, I’ve learned:

Randy has an amazing apartment.

There is no limit to the number of times the c-word can be used in a single podcast.

Here are some podcast suggestions for some other Free FM degenerates:

Workout Video Reviews with Gerry Wachovsky and Scott the Tall Man of Unemployment (Slide to the left…)

How To Get Your Boyfriend’s Urine Out of Your Clothes with Shanna Woolsey (She’ll also throw in some stellar Beatles karaoke, in case your boyfriend is actually normal.)

101 Things To Do With Cous Cous (You know what to do, Steve.)

Will Angie Eat It? (If she won’t, Fat Tad will.)

The other day I was in the Coffee Bean…and Tea… Leaf.

Being in Star Wars is like being in the Bible

Or, since when do you have to be 18 to buy tampons?

So remember when Adam Carolla’s movie, The Hammer, came out? And he told us he often got the super-high-voice, slap-and-a-kiss review – It’s good!

Well I checked out a new podcast and (with all due affection and respect) I’m going to give it the same review – It’s good!

Nerdy in a cute way, Marc Chambers and Tod Perry host Low Budget Radio, “A show where two normal guys talk about normal things.” It is just that. And I like it. I even subscribed.

Technically, the podcast sounds good. Marc and Tod are confident and comfortable at the mic and I enjoyed the show topics. They’re not swearing every other word (we can talk about swearing in podcasts later), though I did LOL when they used the major MF term but said “ess” in the same sentence.

Oh, and one more thing. Tod (I think it was him) does a stellar Jack Silver impression. If that doesn’t make the podcast worth downloading, I don’t know what does.

Can I develop more of a relationship with the 7-11 guy?
