If you only listen to one Pretty Good Podcast, you HAVE to listen to show #200 with Tim Conway, Jr. Seriously, you have to.
It’s like a requirement.
If you only listen to one Pretty Good Podcast, you HAVE to listen to show #200 with Tim Conway, Jr. Seriously, you have to.
It’s like a requirement.
(But no, Randy, I don’t want you.)
So I have super late meetings all week, but I don’t want to let the week go by without posting this.
If you haven’t listened to the Pretty Good Podcast in awhile, it’s time to get re-introversed. Seriously. I can’t believe how much the show has grown in such a short amount of time.
And, unbelievably, the growth of the show pales in comparison to the personal growth of that Randall Epstein Wang. Suddenly he’s all confident and stuff – it’s kinda hot.
Start with episode #154 – The Pretty Good GradCast and work your way forward.
Trust me.
P.S. As a writer I find it important to let you know that I know that “introversed” is not a real word. But Randy doesn’t know that – shhh…
OK, who’s bored yet? I am. I have…let’s see…NO new podcasts on my iPod. Thank goodness for all the high quality literature I’m reading on my new Kindle. (Shhh…please don’t tell my NerdPR friends I’m reading this crap.)
But I have managed to scrounge up some other holiday recommendations for you guys.
Pretty Good Podcast Christmas Special
What a special treat – gift exchange, holiday songs, Aunt Edna – it doesn’t get better than this. Good job, Randy and Gina!!
Marc Germain back live this week
BTW, remember when Tootie suddenly decided she wanted people to call her by her real name – Dorothy? It didn’t work. Because it’s just weird. That’s how I feel calling Mr. KABC Marc. Just weird.
Anyway, Mr. K, Dan Avey, Dina Losito, even Rob Marinko and Sharon the Gossip Mom, are all back live tonight on Talk Radio One.
KFI fill-in hosts
Gary Hoffman in for Bill Handel in the morning, Wayne Resnick in for Bill Handel in the afternoon, and Tim Conway, Jr. (the sexiest man in talk radio) in for John and Ken. Awesome.
(Do you think we can we get someone to fill in for Bryan Suits?)
Doug McIntyre in for Joe Scarborough
Monday – Wednesday this week 10pm-midnight on KABC. (I think I like these fill-in hosts way better than the originals.)
This American Life – A Very Special Sedaris Christmas
A rerun but enjoyable nonetheless. Some classic David Sedaris Christmas tales, a holiday letter read by Julia Sweeney, and why A Christmas Carol sucks.
So over the long weekend I was able to listen to a lot of podcasts. A lot. I’m all caught up on TBTL, Marc Germain, Pretty Good Podcast, and Low Budget. I even listened to a couple K-Pods and a couple Adam Carollas.
I re-listened to the latest Ricky Gervais audiobook – Guide to Society. (By the way, another audiobook comes out tomorrow – Guide to Law and Order.) I heart these audiobooks.
Oh, and on Black Friday I camped out in front of the $78 1TB external hard drives. So now I’m all set to permanently archive whatever old Conway and Whitmans I managed to download when they were available.
Perhaps that makes me a loser, but I can’t take the chance of never hearing those studs together again.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the I Heart Talk Radio readers! You guys are major studs and I’m thankful for you.
I am also thankful for…
Wayne Resnick for being a guitar god and a great talk show host. And for working every holiday so losers like me have something to listen to at 5:00am.
Randy Wang for starting the podcast revolution.
Adam Carolla for the radio methadone.
Frosty, Heidi and Frank for everything. You guys are the best.
Kathleen McGowan for writing the most interesting book I read this year.
Nigel Lythgoe for So You Think You Can Dance (don’t laugh, it really is a tremendous show)
J.K. Rowling and Alan Rickman for Severus Snape.
Trader Joe’s for sparkling mineral water.
and
Clay Aiken for his version of O Holy Night.
OK, so People magazine’s sexiest man alive for 2009 is Johnny Depp. Again. Yes, of course he’s hot and radically talented and he seems like a nice person. Fair enough.
But it got me thinking… Who is the sexiest man of talk radio this year?
Should be an easy decision. Radio guys are practically never nerdy, fat, bald, misogynistic, loud mouths with bad attitudes and drug problems.
Oh, wait. This may be harder than I thought.
Let’s see…
Bill Handel – Yeah, we’ll just cross him off right away.
John and/or Ken – No, thanks.
Randy Wang – Gag. (Just kidding, Randy. You’re just too young to be the sexiest man alive. And I may have heard way too many details about your personal life.)
Frank Kramer – Drugs.
Frosty Stilwell – Obviously not.
Malibu Dan – See Frank Kramer.
Luke Burbank – A strong possibility. Maybe next year.
Mr. KABC – Prior to Talk Radio One, he probably would have won. But he’s out. And he knows why – powder blue Crocs.
Plus he’s all vasovagal-ly.
Brian Whitman – A good contender, but seeing as how he’s not actually in talk radio at the moment, I think he’s disqualified.
I guess that just leaves one person…
The Sexiest Man Alive in Talk Radio is Timmy Conway, Jr., maaan.
Look at you, maaan. You’re a major stud.
I said it.

So this morning I got up at 4:00 and listened to the Pretty Good Podcast while I brushed my teeth.
This is what I heard…
Gina: Bill Mahoney is the segue king.
Randy: Oh, yeah.
Gina: I need to rent one of those.
Me: You can rent a segue?
Ummm, yeah…how about a Segway?
I need more sleep.
After nearly 20 years of listening to talk radio, I’ve come to one conclusion. I rarely have anything in common with these people. I don’t drink or do drugs or watch American Idol. I don’t spend $10,000 on rims or pergolas or iTunes downloads. I’m not a lesbian and I don’t have a gay husband. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Recently on The Pretty Good Podcast, Randy and Gina made a TV pact. Randy would watch Gina’s favorite shows – Mad Men and Six Feet Under; Gina would watch Randy’s favorite show – Lost.
Now I love the PGP and I love Gina but, true to form, I have very little in common with her in the way of TV/entertainment. I do enjoy a good street fair, but I don’t think Canadians are funny, I’m not at all interested in cat videos on YouTube, I think 30 Rock is incredibly boring, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE British TV shows.
So when I heard about the PGP TV pact, I got nervous. I hadn’t seen Mad Men yet, but it had been in my Netflix queue for several weeks and the first DVD had just arrived. I really wanted to like it. But how can I like Mad Men if Gina likes it?
It turns out I do love it!
The lesson to be learned here is this. Some things just transcend our differences and bring us together as people. And if those things involve chain smoking, adultery, racism, sexual harassment, and Brylcreem, so be it.
I have to go outside now and wait for the mailman.
Congratulations to Randy and Gina and all those major studs at Hot Talk LA!
This has been a weird week in talk radio.
First, Adam Carolla filled in for Bill Handel. I thought he did a great job. While they stuck to the traditional format, Adam was funny, got in a few rants, but didn’t derail the show. I liked it. By the way, the morning crew is not famous for being welcoming to newcomers. They were generally nice enough to Adam, but the passive aggression really kicked into high gear when no one told Adam he was saying the station ID incorrectly EVERY time. “KFI AM 640 more stimulating talk.”
As I’m writing this entry, I’m listening to Tim Conway, Jr. fill in for Bill Handel. He didn’t make the “good morning” rounds, so I’m sure that morning crew is not too pleased. But I’m enjoying it.
Last night Gina Grad was on Marc Germain’s show, filling in for Rob Marinko with that news, maaan. I can’t wait to listen to the podcast later. But I’m a little confused with the show description…
Gina Grad from ThePrettyGoodPodcast.com sat in for Marinko’s news and she was pretty good – pretty good for Marc and Dina, anyway. And just like a precious snowflake, she disappeared. Not sure what happened but we’re sure to have her back if she ever reappears.
What happened, Gina?
I have to go. My worlds are colliding…
